The Democrats' Hypocrisy on Russia

Some of President Trump's statements at the Helsinki Summit with Vladimir Putin were definitely foolish and cringe-worthy.  He did not help his own created image of being the tough, no-nonsense leader that he would like to portray to the rest of us.  That said, Trump's actions against Russia, particularly as compared to that of President Obama's and his corrupt Secretary of State Clinton's, is orders of magnitude tougher than that of previous Democrats.  Of course, that doesn't fit the leftist narrative and will be summarily dismissed by them accordingly.

I find it ironic that the Left's posturing against Russia is so tough these days now that they are "out of power".  I remember when Russia was still Communist and many on the left adored them and thought their own country, particularly under Ronald Reagan, was the real threat to world peace and prosperity.  I guess their group hallucination regarding the mis-perceived transgression that Russia cost their own corrupt Hillary the presidency has really ruffled their feathers.  I guess to many Leftists slights against their party are more damnable than slights against their country.

I'm asking this with no snark and with all seriousness: Can you cite example(s) that support this statement? I know this is a current talking point, but no one I have seen actually explains how they come to believe this.

Spot on Mr. Paine, spot on.

You will now get demands to prove your comments from people who believe an indictment is the same as being found guilty, who can not find one stitch of evidence that one vote in the 2016 election was changed by an action of Russia.

It has been proven that Russia conducted a cyber-attack with the intention of subverting our electoral process. Nowhere, did anybody, make the claim they were successful.

Obviously that doesn't mean they weren't successful -- only that it hasn't been established.

The special counsel's investigation isn't over. The recent twelve indictments were only the latest "phase", for lack of an alternate term.

There are more to come...

TB3, that is a fair question. I thought about listing some of these measures but didn’t. Perhaps I should have in the post. That said here are just a few of them:

- Sanctions have remained in place over Russia’s annexation of Crimea
- Additional sanctions on Russian oligarchs, businesses, and other entities is in the hundreds due to their cyber attacks and interference in U.S. matters etc. Many of these people are cronies of Putin’s.
- He has ordered some 59 plus missile attacks on Russian allies in Syria on military and strategic targets. (Instead of merely drawing an unenforced red-line.)
- He has repeatedly and vociferously denounced Russian ally Bashar Assad as a “gas killing animal” leading Syria.
- After the poisoning of Sergei Skripal and his daughter on British soil, Trump expelled 60 diplomats from the U.S. and shut down consulates of theirs in the U.S.
- Trump has opposed and blocked U.S. help and capital for Russia’s Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline to Europe and has severally chastised publicly European nations such as Germany that wished to do business with Putin while not living up to their NATO obligations.
- Under the Trump Administration, Russian mercenaries and other pro-Syrian regime forces attacking U.S. troops in Syria were killed.
- Trump has increased troops and military capability in Eastern Europe and has dramatically increased training and exercises with NATO allies.
- Trump approved the sale of lethal weaponry to Ukraine to support their defense against further Russian aggression.
- Trump approved the installation of the theater based missile defense system to Poland (and probably other allies) that President Obama reneged upon earlier.

Here is a link to The Hill for some other support of my contention.

No, he got a question. Follow up questions are reasonable when you make an assertion. I know it's difficult for you to understand, but sometimes you need supplemental, supporting information to accept an assertion.

TP,

Thank you for the detailed list and explanation. Thank you for Jen Kerns's Opinion piece in The Hill. I appreciate it. Just a few things:

* Sanctions in place over Russia's annexation of Crimea. These sanctions were placed under Obama... how is their continuation under Trump support for your point that Trump's policies toward Russia "is orders of magnitude tougher than that of previous Democrats"?
* Additional Sanctions: Only after legislation (CAATSA) was passed to force the administration to do something. :)
* Missile Attacks: The chemical attack on Syria's citizenry needed a response and I am glad the US and its allies reacted with strength. It sucks that the Obama Administration could not convince Congress to give it the authorization of force it needed to act in the way Obama laid out in the speech he gave in the Rose Garden at the time. I'm still unclear as to how Trump was able to order what he ordered without similar authorization. It may have been because of a simultaneous re-write of the Auth for Use of Military Force that occurred around the same time... but I haven't researched that enough.
* Assad needs continued denunciation and the only difference between the two administrations is that Trump called Assad a name? This is a show of strength? Is this 7th Grade?
* The previous administration also expelled Russian Diplomats as well, over the cyberattacks.
* Re: Nord Pipeline; Trump railed against Germany on something that had nothing to do with NATO obligations? How is this an example of being "magnitude tougher than that of previous Democrats"? Honestly, after Trump's unfortunate word choice concerning Montenegro, I fear our President isn't sure what NATO even does.
* Though I am glad our troops found success against the Syrians and Private Contractors, I'm not sure how our soldiers fighting off a surprise attack is a sign of the Trump Administration's toughness towards Russia. Unless I'm thinking of a different confrontation. Did we get anything from Russia, a concession or something, following their failed attack? What am I missing?
* Re: Eastern Europe - This is great. A reaffirmation that NATO is more than dealing with the Middle East and Afghanistan. I am happy our Military forces have the flexibility due to shrinking obligations in other theaters that they can shift that kind of focus back to our allies.
* Re: Ukraine - I agree with this. Ukraine's unilateral denuclearization is a strong example to other nations not to give up their nuclear arsenal. I understand the Obama Administration's stance, Ukraine isn't in NATO, but the response to Russian aggression could have been better. I imagine our other obligations played a roll in our policy.
* Re: Missile defense - I'm unfamiliar with this. One; The Obama Administration didn't reneg upon it. They changed the plan. Two; I don't see anywhere that the Trump Administration agreed to return to the Bush-era plan. I do see that Poland was sold some missiles but I don't know if this is in relation to the Bush/Obama Missile shield project.

We are in truly ironic times where both sides don't like to hear dissent to their superior opinions. I think to admit Trump misspoke on the press conference is not to mean he owes Putin his fortune but it is in the minds of the left. Most of what is true right now will take a long time to find-- if ever. Even with history, we see it changing all the time to fit current political prejudices. Is truth ever possible to get? With some things, yes, but not all.

The irony here is there is no doubt that Clinton's campaign paid for a Russian dossier that has yet to be proven even though lefties claim it is true-- and hey, it might be-- or not. She also had a lot of money donated to her foundation from Russian oligarchs. Bill got huge speaking fees. Was she in the pocket of the Kremlin? Bet not one single Dem would say she had been, even with the questionable and twisted deal to sell Russia 25% of our uranium, that supposedly would never leave the country although I've read it did and went *crickets*.

If we had legitimate journalists, who would go where the story took them, this might be proven but most so-called journalists today are partisan-- one way or the other. For my news I do like The Guardian and get stories like recently on Nicaragua that our partisan and political news doesn't cover or if they do, it's minuscule. I also like The Intercept to explore stories not routinely covered. They both lean left but do go where the stories take them and have enough diverse news reporters that they get stories most mainstream media wouldn't touch

On May 19, 2017. Strzok sent a text to Page that said, "There’s no big there there”.

May 19, 2017 is two days after Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein named special counsel Robert Mueller to oversee an investigation into alleged collusion between Trump and the Russia campaign.

When Stzok was asked about the meaning of his text he declined to answer. Page however when asked said the message referred to the quality of the Russian case.

This means Rosenstein unleashed the most awesome powers of a special counsel to investigate an allegation that the key FBI officials, driving the investigation for 10 months beforehand, did not think was “there.”

"By the time of the text and Mueller’s appointment, the FBI’s best counterintelligence agents had had plenty of time to dig. They knowingly used a dossier funded by Hillary Clinton’s campaign — which contained uncorroborated allegations — to persuade the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) court to issue a warrant to monitor Trump campaign adviser Carter Page (no relation to Lisa Page).

They sat on Carter Page’s phones and emails for nearly six months without getting evidence that would warrant prosecuting him. The evidence they had gathered was deemed so weak that their boss, then-FBI Director James Comey, was forced to admit to Congress after being fired by Trump that the core allegation remained substantially uncorroborated.

In other words, they had a big nothing burger. And, based on that empty-calorie dish, Rosenstein authorized the buffet menu of a special prosecutor that has cost America millions of dollars and months of political strife.

The work product Strzok created to justify the collusion probe now has been shown to be inferior: A Clinton-hired contractor produced multiple documents accusing Trump of wrongdoing during the election; each was routed to the FBI through a different source or was used to seed news articles with similar allegations that further built an uncorroborated public narrative of Trump-Russia collusion. Most troubling, the FBI relied on at least one of those news stories to justify the FISA warrant against Carter Page." John Solomon The Hill

A big nothing burger because Clinton lost. Is it any wonder then why the left has become so crazed, so radical, so extreme, so violent? They lost and can't face it.

This shouldn’t even be a partisan issue. Smarter conservatives and Republicans see what is happening.

”Over the course of my career as an undercover officer in the C.I.A., I saw Russian intelligence manipulate many people. I never thought I would see the day when an American president would be one of them.

The president’s failure to defend the United States intelligence community’s unanimous conclusions of Russian meddling in the 2016 election and condemn Russian covert counterinfluence campaigns and his standing idle on the world stage while a Russian dictator spouted lies confused many but should concern all Americans. By playing into Vladimir Putin’s hands, the leader of the free world actively participated in a Russian disinformation campaign that legitimized Russian denial and weakened the credibility of the United States to both our friends and foes abroad.”
- Will Hurd, Republican congressman from Texas

"We're in a strange place. It's becoming a cultish thing, isn't it?" the Tennessee Republican told reporters. "It's not a good place for any party to have a cult-like situation as it relates to a President that happens to be purportedly of the same party." - Senate Foreign Relations Chairman Bob Corker

Only a fanatically loyal Russian agent like KomradMajor would compare Clinton's diplomatic courtesy to siding with Putin against two bi-partisan Senate committees, the Director of National Intelligence, the FBI and the CIA and shamelessly taking a knee by participating in a Russian disinformation campaign.

Did the FBI Lie to the FISA Court?

Daniel J. Flynn

The FBI did not allow the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court to do just that.

Instead, the heavily-redacted application for a warrant to surveil U.S. citizen Carter Page obscures the source. It never says, at least in the unredacted portions, that the Hillary Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee paid operatives to dig dirt on Donald Trump.

This allows the warrant to talk of “research” and not “opposition research.” The warrant application shields the partisan origins of the “dossier” and talks of a “law firm” hiring the investigators. In reality, Hillary Clinton’s campaign and the DNC paid the law firm, which paid Fusion GPS, which paid Christopher Steele (and, given the reference to a “U.S. person” in the warrant, perhaps others — unless that “U.S. person” was, in fact, a U.K. person, which complicates the narrative of foreign interference) to conduct opposition research.

By using intermediaries to effectively launder dirty money clean, the Clinton campaign kept its name off of a story it generated — and dodged the whole intent of campaign finance laws in the process. The FBI, not wanting to undermine its case to the FISA court, similarly omitted that the material it presented to the court came from a political operative paid by the opponent of “Candidate #1.” It now omits the name of the agent bringing the application forth to the court. Judging by what we know about the various FBI employees involved in the investigation, the agent’s identity may prove similarly damning. Why redact the investigating agent’s name and not the subject of his or her investigation?

The date of the application also remains redacted, at least partially so. Although we see a stamp that indicates “2016” and “OCT,” we do not know the exact date. Christopher Steele reported findings to the FBI beginning in early July 2016. At some point before Election Day, the bureau and Steele reached an agreement, later voided, in which the FBI pledged to pay the former MI6 officer to continue his investigation. Surely the FBI knew by that point just who had been paying Steele, right? It is the Federal Bureau of Investigation, after all.

If the bureau did not, it reveals itself in the warrant as comically incompetent. If the bureau did, it reveals itself in the warrant as terribly dishonest. Lying to judges, like lying to the FBI, comes with consequences — at least it should.

Here’s what the application states in a footnote:

Source #1, who now owns a foreign business/financial intelligence firm, was approached by an identified U.S. person, who indicated to Source #1 that a U.S. based law firm had hired the identified U.S. person to conduct research regarding Candidate #1’s ties to Russia (the identified U.S. person and Source #1 have a long-standing business relationship). The identified U.S. person hired Source #1 to conduct this research. The identified U.S. person never advised Source #1 as to the motivation behind the research into Candidate #1’s ties to Russia. The FBI speculates that the identified U.S. person was likely looking for information that could be used to discredit Candidate #1’s campaign.

Did the FBI merely speculate at this point or did it know? A few lines later the FBI hints at a “reason” — without explaining the nature of the “reason” — for Source #1’s research.

“Notwithstanding Source #1’s reason for conducting the research into Candidate #1’s ties to Russia,” a footnote explains, “based on Source #1’s previous reporting history with the FBI, whereby Source #1 provided reliable information to the FBI, the FBI believes Source #1’s reporting herein to be credible.”

In excising information directly pertaining to that source’s credibility, the FBI impugned it own. Congressman Devin Nunes said earlier this year that the FBI “basically lied to the court” to get the warrant. The application partially released seems to confirm this."

JG re your claim about my post of July 23, 2018 at 7:43 AM

You and your fellow leftist morons, read my subject post and you will see who I quoted.

TB3,

You feckless leftist idiot, you seem to be lacking the ability to carry any continuation of thought. I'll type real slow for you.

When are the trials of those indicted, including the Russians, scheduled? When are trials for the Americans who have been indicted for collusion with the Russians taking place? When will the indictment and trials for what JG said was an "administration (that) is already one of the most corrupt and incorrigible in modern history."? Who are these corrupt people and what are their crimes and when will they be indicted?

"There is no there there"...this is for you JG, you know who I'm quoting right?

"I'll type real slow for you."

This is the most meaningless thing anyone could write on the internet. Thank you for that.

Though it seems as if I must have struck a nerve, maybe? Are you a fan of Daniel J. Flynn? Defending him as you do our President, with the same vim and vigor? I read the article that you Cut and Pasted. I actually gave the Spectator another hit to count for their website in order to read the original source. Unlike you, I seek out sources and articles that I generally do not agree with. Like yesterday when I ventured over to RedState and read an article that reminded me of you, MM. The Trump Era and Dumb Conservatism: When "Owning the Libs" is Your Only Goal by Kimberly Ross. I recommend the read. It's relatively short. I mean, not as short as a Daniel J. Flynn piece, but you know... read it when you're rested and your mind won't stray. Or don't. It's a free country.

"When are the trials of those indicted, including the Russians, scheduled?"

Look it up yourself. You're an adult.

"When are trials for the Americans who have been indicted for collusion with the Russians taking place?"

www.google.com

In the search field type that exact question.

" When will the indictment and trials for what JG said was an "administration (that) is already one of the most corrupt and incorrigible in modern history."?"

I know you think you're on a role, but re-read what you just typed really slowly to me. Your question doesn't even make sense. In any case, see my answer two questions above this one for your answer.

"Who are these corrupt people and what are their crimes and when will they be indicted?"

Inquiring minds would like to know.

"There is no allegation in this indictment that any American citizen committed a crime. There is no allegation that the conspiracy changed the vote count or affected any election result.

The Special Counsel’s investigation is ongoing and there will be no comments from the Special Counsel at this time.

Assistant Attorney General John Demers is here with me today because we intend to transition responsibility for this indictment to the Justice Department’s National Security Division while we await the apprehension of the defendants.

I want to caution you that people who speculate about federal investigations usually do not know all of the relevant facts. We do not try cases on television or in congressional hearings. Most anonymous leaks are not from the government officials who are actually conducting these investigations.

We follow the rule of law, which means that we follow procedures and reserve judgment. We complete our investigations and we evaluate all of the evidence before we reach any conclusion.

That is how the American people expect their Department of Justice to operate and that is how our department is going to operate. In our justice system, everyone who is charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. It should go without saying that people who are not charged with a crime also are presumed innocent."

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein
July 2018

Read the 1st paragraph again, "There is no allegation in this indictment that any American citizen committed a crime. There is no allegation that the conspiracy changed the vote count or affected any election result."

And the last paragraph, "In our justice system, everyone who is charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. It should go without saying that people who are not charged with a crime also are presumed innocent."

I'll try to paraphrase for TB3 by quoting FBI agent Peter Strzok
"there is no there there"

When did Carter Page meet Donald Trump?

TB3 said...

If there is no there there, MM, than why, pray tell, are you spending so much energy and time on it? You must be wearing off the Ctrl, C and P from your keyboard with the number of times you keep deflecting to this. If there is no there there, MM, why are you not deflecting to something that is there? You can't bring something up and then turn around and say it's nothing.

Your constant deflections aren't taking anyone who truly cares to know the truth on things off the trail of the truth by being like this. I mean, no more time than the five minutes it takes me to read, interpret, and respond to your, uh, I'll refer to them as points?

I watch the Rosenstein pressers. I watch the WH Press Briefings. You can quote me Rosenstein's words all you want. I remember them, I watched it live. You can go to C-Span now and watch it yourself.

I'm really not sure what the point you are trying to make.

TB3,

That battle for the truth know's no limit, that's why.

So tell us, what is there in Columbia, MD?

TB3 said...

And what is that truth, MM? And is that the truth? Or "the truth"?

Columbia has one of the top three outdoor amphitheaters in the country. It's called Merriweather Post Pavilion.

Chuck, are you planning another concert out of state? Don't they allow rock concerts in Texas?...or is it forbidden and limited to Christian and gospel music?

DD, seems our former President just admitted he is from Kenya

Name the crimes that have been committed and the people charged.

That simple enough for ya?

As for concerts in Texas. All styles of music and events are allowed and well attended, unlike like the bastions of the left were free speech is limited to left wing speech.

Well, after sixty plus comments, the only thing new I learned is that Majormajor has cancer.

For this I am truly sorry, sir. I hope that the prognosis is good and treatment will negate it. I'll add you to my prayer list, Majormajor. God bless you and yours!

Majormajor said...

Thanks Mr. Paine! Got my cancer on the run, have 37 years sober, and after my upcoming heart surgery should be ready to continue the fight for liberty, truth and justice as our Constitution provides citizens of the USA.

What I've learned is the entire Russia/Trump thing is a farce drummed up in an attempt to discredit and maybe even impeach a legally elected President. That there is no there there.

I have learned what I always suspected that the leftist who post here know this but have so much invested in their fear for anyone who is to the right of them they have lost all rationality. I have learned the left fears the success of President Trump because it the more citizens who have jobs, the less citizens will need the leftist programs.

I wouldn't be surprised and believe there are already signs of this, that the next phase of the left's attack will be claims of corruption. If the evidence for these claims are as valid as the claim of Trump working with Russian or obstructing justice or the FISA application, then the left will turn even more violent in their outrage that their core beliefs are based on lies, and they are losing power based on the misery their programs have created.

Did you already know Merriweather Post Pavilion is considered one of the top three outdoor amphitheaters in the country?

And I'm glad to see you already realized that Trump's administration is one of the most corrupt and incorrigible in modern history.

"Well, after sixty plus comments, the only thing new I learned is that Majormajor has cancer." ~~ T. Paine

I thank Mr. Paine for his hospitality, and everything he has illuminated for the dimmer, less informed people here.

He must marvel at how dense we are. But we have the privileged opportunity to learn so much from MajorMajor; nothing that Mr. Paine doesn't already know, of course.

One thing special I learned was how much I loved Russia when Reagan was president. When St. Ronnie said, "Tear down this wall", I was furious. I wanted the wall to stay. I loved that wall. Now I am suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome because I don't want a wall around us we can see from space. So big! So beautiful....Sigh. If only it were built to keep us in.

That's what I learned liberals want. We hate freedom and want to be fed by the government for all our lives. We don't want to work for it either. We just want to take from hard working REAL Americans.

We want open borders. No. We don't want any borders. We want all Mexicans, and even terrorists, to just come in. We want the government to feed them too! And give them jobs, only if they want them.

But that's how we stupid libs think. We're so stupid we think Putin doesn't love us and have our best interests in mind. Because of TDS we don't think Trump will make us great again. Even with Putin's help.

Alas we are lost. It is our curse to not follow authoritarian leaders to glory and greatness.

Be patient.

They're coming, Chuck, they're coming. Mr. Mueller hasn't finished his investigation yet.

Majormajor said...

"Justice Department’s release of secret warrants that the FBI used to monitor former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page. The four applications, which were obtained under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), show that the bureau relied heavily on the dossier, which was funded by the Clinton campaign and DNC, to obtain the warrants, which accused Page of being a secret Kremlin agent.

But not only do many of the allegations in the dossier remain unverified, there is reason to doubt the credibility of a major source for the 35-page document, including for claims that the Kremlin has blackmail material on President Donald Trump and about Page’s alleged involvement in a collusion conspiracy."

If Mueller had anything to support the claims/dreams of wrong doing by Mr. Trump, Adam Schiff would have leaked them by now.
