Schumer Shutdown, DACA, and Roe v. Wade

Things have been hectic for me lately so my writing has unfortunately taken short shrift again accordingly.  That said, I wanted to share a few thoughts on important topics to me.  Each of these issues is deserving of a more thorough article, but instead, with the constraints on my time, I am forced to give you the Reader’s Digest versions.

First, the asinine and cynically corrupt fools that participated in the Schumer shutdown of the government should be held accountable with the loss of their seats of power, if there were indeed any justice left in this nation.  Why these folks would vote against a spending bill which funds all the pet projects that the Democrats adore and contains nothing of substance for which they loathe is beyond me.

They have chosen, under the “leadership” of Senate minority leader Schumer to place the desires of DACA people over that of all other Americans.  The truly ironic fact that displays the cynicism of these folks that care more for illegal aliens and expanding their own political power through the immigration of more future Democrats is that congressional work on DACA was proceeding well already.  There was no need to attach a non-related immigration rider onto this spending bill.

Perhaps President Trump is right.  The senate may need to use the nuclear option and return to a simple majority to end debate and pass spending bills.  Oh, and by the way, Senators of both parties, why don’t you ALL do your damned jobs and pass a yearly budget for once and stop running the government on these continuing resolutions and then we wouldn’t be faced with these impending shutdowns every so often.  I am disgusted beyond belief with the Senate, and particularly with those that would fail to fund our nation’s defenders by holding them hostage if we don’t allow more illegal immigrants into our nation.

Second, regarding DACA, this is an issue which absolutely needs to be addressed, and should be the next priority after the Schumer shutdown is put to rest.  I have just listened to this blowhard asshat Schumer on TV blame the president, the Republicans, and everyone but himself and his cynical power-hungry crew, for this unnecessary shutdown.

His predecessor, Harry Reid, was a liar of such magnitude that he would make Hillary blush.  He was completely without any sense of honor or decency.  I had hoped that Senator Schumer would restore some sense of honor to the leadership of the senate on the Democrat side.  This speech doesn’t bode well for that notion, but I digress.

It is my opinion, that people who were minors when brought to the United States by their illegal alien parents should not be forced to leave the United States.  A bill should be passed that allows them and their parents permanent legal status to work and enjoy all of the rights and responsibilities of the United States with the exception of not being allowed to vote -- EVER for the parents and at least for ten years for the DACA child in question.  No, it is not the fault of these dreamers that their parents brought them illegally to the U.S., but a price must still be paid for breaking our immigration laws.

Further, as these good folks are granted legal status, an end to extended chain migration MUST be a non-negotiable part of this new law.  No aunts, uncles, third cousins and so forth should be granted legal immigration status simply on the fact that a related minor child was illegally brought into this country.  Of course this will not ever pass congress, as the very reason the cynical Democrats want passage of this is not out of any altruistic caring for the people in question, but because of the largely supported assumption that these people will become reliable Democrat voters.  THAT is the truth of which they will never publicly admit.

Finally, today, January 22, 2018, marks the 45th anniversary of the egregious Roe. V. Wade decision by the Supreme Court of the United States of America.  Since this “right” to kill our unborn children was dubiously discovered within the United State Constitution by our Supreme Court, over 60 MILLION children have been “legally” killed by abortion.  Further, this pernicious evil has occurred in defiance of our founding document as a nation, the Declaration of Independence, which states that we are endowed by our Creator with the inalienable right to life.

Our third President and author of our Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson, once stated, “I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that his justice cannot sleep forever.”  And while the great Thomas Jefferson was referring to the evil institution of slavery, of which he paradoxically participated, the concept of God’s justice is still as valid today as it was those several hundred years ago.

When a nation destroys our innocent unborn, while God may not smite us all from the heavens above, He will allow us to suffer the consequences of our evil actions when it comes to our support of abortion.  And just like we had to suffer through our bloodiest war that nearly ripped our country asunder at the loss of over 600,000 American lives to finally end the evils of slavery, one wonders what the cost of justice will be for 60 million innocent unborn lives?

Oh, and on this horrific anniversary, ironically there is a blessed silver lining for me.  Happy birthday to my amazing daughter!

UPDATE:  It has now been reported as of mid-day today that Senator Schumer and his crew have duplicitously "ended the Schumer shutdown" by basically striking a deal with Republicans that mirrored the exact same deal offered on Friday night.  They basically shut things down to get a guarantee on a DACA vote that was not stalled and was moving forward.  This was nothing more than cynical political posturing.

Outstanding post Mr. Paine.

My only modification to your DACA proposal would be Dreamers can still become citizens like any other immigrate and then and only then have right to vote. I know the DNC will quickly lose interest in the well being of Dreamers if they can not vote.

"Schumer shutdown"

Stop trying to perpetuate this Meme. Republican control the the House, Senate and the Presidency. Schumer has no power here. It's not like he kept the whole Democratic Caucus in lockstep. There were Democrats that crossed the aisle to vote YES. Just as there were Republicans that voted NO. Mitch McConnell, the actual Leader of the Senate, voted no.

"...expanding their own political power through the immigration of more future Democrats..."

This a very unfortunate world view you have and pretty cynical way to look at the complex issue DACA attempts to deal with.

"The senate may need to use the nuclear option and return to a simple majority to end debate and pass spending bills."

Or actually make people that threaten filibuster actually, you know, filibuster.

"do your damned jobs and pass a yearly budget for once and stop running the government on these continuing resolutions and then we wouldn’t be faced with these impending shutdowns every so often."

Here, Here!

" I am disgusted beyond belief with the Senate, and particularly with those that would fail to fund our nation’s defenders by holding them hostage if we don’t allow more illegal immigrants into our nation."

It's never been about allowing more illegal immigrants into this nation. I am hoping this thought is simply your misunderstanding.

So... what exactly did he say that sent you on this adjective-laden diatribe?

"A bill should be passed that allows them and their parents permanent legal status to work and enjoy all of the rights and responsibilities of the United States with the exception of not being allowed to vote"

You literally just described DACA. So, yes, by all means. Congress; Take what we had before and make it official through the legislature.

"a price must still be paid for breaking our immigration laws"

And you're advocating that children bare the punishment for their parents' sins. Compassion. Empathy.

"When a nation destroys our innocent unborn, while God may not smite us all from the heavens above, He will allow us to suffer the consequences of our evil actions when it comes to our support of abortion."

The Nation isnt doing anything more than affirming a person's individual right to make a decision. Since you're using colorful and firey words on this topic, I know this is not a topic you actually intend to discuss. I understand it's always good to get things off of your chest once in a while, though.

I hope the hecticness of life clears up and affords you more time to devote to your writing... that is if you want it to. :)

Majormajor, thank you for your kind words, my friend.

As for your proposed modification, I would be open to the idea of the Dreamers getting legal status immediately and then eventually allowed the right to vote ONLY after all of the LEGAL immigrants are processed and made citizens. It is a bargaining chip I could negotiate, if it were up to me. I would NOT allow the parents that brought them here illegally that same voting right. I would give them legal status and all other rights but NOT the right to vote.

The fact that most Democrats would never agree to this, as the expansion of their voter base is the only reason for most of them even doing this means that such an agreement that I proposed will never come to pass.

Darrell Michaels said...

TB3, come on sir. You are a very sharp guy. You know how this works in the Senate. It doesn't matter that the Republicans have a slim majority there. They do not hold a 60 to 40 seat majority, assuming everyone voted along party lines. That means, the tyranny of a minority can hold the United States government hostage over a non-issue and then agree to the very deal that was offered Friday night before the Schumer shutdown began. DACA was not stalled. It was moving forward, so there was never a need for this cynical showdown. There were not 60 votes in the senate to end a threatened filibuster, so the Democrat minority did have the power and used it to prevent this unobjectionable spending resolution to proceed. (unobjectionable to them)

For the record, I absolutely concur that the lazy senators should actually make an opposition party actually filibuster instead of shutting things down on the threat thereof. If they believe strongly enough in an issue, let them maintain the filibuster in support of it. That would at least give some semblance of virtue to their position.

And yes, TB3, this is absolutely about legalizing existing immigrants here in the United States and allowing more to come in through chain migration simply by being related to newly legalized immigrants here. It is about nothing more than the expansion of the Democrat base.

Like I said, the quickest way to prove this would be for the Republicans to agree to all Democrat demands on this issue, legalize existing immigrants, allow chain migration, and such but with the caveat that they cannot ever vote. The Democrats would not accept the deal. Of course they would couch this in terms of civil rights and making people second class citizens, but the fact remains that without the benefit of them expanding their power base, there really isn't a need for them to expend political capital on this issue. Surely you are not so naive as to actually believe that their motives are purely altruistic, sir?

Majormajor said...

Based on TB3's last post I am starting to have doubts about his being as sharp as you credit him to be. I believe this is the 3rd time you have explained to him how the Senate works?

It is now the Schumer Surrender.

The Trump administration is overturning Obama-era
advisories aimed at preventing states from cutting Medicaid funding to
Planned Parenthood.

The administration is rescinding an April 2016 letter that the Obama
administration sent to states warning them that restricting Medicaid
funding to Planned Parenthood could violate federal law. Administration
officials said Friday it is rescinding the guidance to give states more
flexibility over how they manage Medicaid.

“States who run Medicaid jointly have had a say in whether providers
in borders eligible to participate in Medicaid program,” said Charmaine
Yoest, assistant secretary for public affairs at Health and Human
Services.

The Obama administration sent the 2016 letter after 10 states moved
to end Medicaid funding to the women’s health and abortion provider.
States targeted Planned Parenthood in response to a series of undercover
videos from an anti-abortion activist that showed Planned Parenthood
officials discussing the donation and harvesting of aborted fetal
tissue.

It is against the law to profit off the sale of aborted fetal tissue
and Planned Parenthood charged that it was only reimbursed for
transportation by research facilities receiving the tissue.

Courts have blocked efforts by states to defund Planned Parenthood.

A senior administration official said that the new guidance only goes
back to appropriate legal standards before the 2016 letter.

When will lefties admit they love and planned for the Schumer shut down?

Democrats conducted a poll in states President Donald Trump won in
2016 to determine what would happen if a shutdown was tied to
immigration, according to a report Sunday from The Washington Post.

A Super PAC allied with Senate Democrats commissioned a poll in 12
battleground states to determine which party would be blamed if a
shutdown was tied to the legal status of dreamers. The poll found
Democrats absorb most of the blame in such a scenario.

The poll, which was conducted in December by Garin-Hart-Yang Research
Group on behalf of Senate Majority PAC, also found that blame for a
shutdown would be split between Trump and Republicans, and Democrats in
Congress, WaPo reported.

Really? It isn't doing anything more than that? Just allowing people to make a decision... about killing unborn children?

It is my belief that we destroy the gift of life given to us by God at our own peril. Life was one of the three inalienable rights upon which this nation was formed to protect. I am saddened that so many good Americans assume that the unborn are not human life worthy of our love and protection and are nothing more than a "decision" to be made as to their disposition. Thumbs up or thumbs down... just like the old Roman Caesers standing in judgement of a person's fate in the coliseum.

As for my sentiments towards the integrity-challenged, perfect politician (and I mean that in the very worst connotation of the words) Harry Reid, I give you a few of my past thoughts regarding him.

As for Mr. Dubya's predictable resorting to the race card, I am not surprised. For the record, there should be a penalty when someone has broken the law. If anyone gave a damn what I thought, (and I know they do not) I said I would give the Dreamers full citizenship, minus voting rights. Seems like a fair penalty to me.

I even stipulated, after Majormajor's comment, that I would be willing to even give them the right to vote AFTER all legal immigrants were processed and given that right for doing things the RIGHT WAY. Evidently following the rules and entering LEGALLY shouldn't put you in front of illegal immigrants in Dave's world. After all, adding more Democrat voters justifies the means, doesn't it?

When it comes to Roe V Wade, when will lefties really support diversity?

Illinois Democratic Reps. Luis Gutierrez and Jan Schakowsky turned
against fellow Democratic Rep. Dan Lipinski this week after their
colleague of more than a decade gave a headline speech at Chicago’s
March For Life.

All three members of Congress represent districts in the Chicago area,
and Gutierrez’ and Schakowsky’s unprecedented endorsement of Lipinski’s
little-known opponent in the upcoming primary is a clear sign that the
Democratic party will no longer tolerate pro-life members. While
Lipinski has been a pro-life Democrat for years, he appears to have
committed an unforgivable sin by giving an address at a March For Life
in Chicago. Lipinski has admitted he is not surprised by the reaction of
his colleagues, Politico reported.

Or is calling out racism now worse than racism? Just who are the real “snowflakes” here?

And no, there are plenty of liberals that are very moral people. I know and love some of them in particular. They are honest in their beliefs, despite my disagreeing with them.

As for the Dreamers, like I said, make them Americans, but not at the expense of those that are trying to become Americans the legal and right way. They should wait their turn. Evidently that is also "racism" in your twisted book. And further, I said nothing about deporting them.

You are a real peace of work, Dave. "Racism or white nationalism". I am sick of your crap. I told you ad nauseum of my thoughts, words, and deeds, including the Hispanic make up of my own children. And you still resort to the freaking race card. Do it again instead of debating the issues and you are done.

Even Wolf Blitzer knows more about how the Senate works than TB3.

"Two Democratic lawmakers, who both have a history of making unreliable claims, were shut down on live TV on Sunday after they attempted to level false allegations against the GOP and portray their party as victims in the government shutdown mess.

Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), who lied about his service record in Vietnam, appeared on CNN with host Wolf Blitzer where he falsely asserted that the Republicans were in control of the Senate.

Shortly after making the remark, Blitzer corrected him, "Well, let me interrupt politely. They're not completely in control of the U.S. Senate as you know, they only have 51 votes, the Democrats are in the minority, but you need 60 votes in order to break a filibuster, so they're not in control of the Senate when it comes to this issue."

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL), who also has a history of making false statements, claimed that Republicans haven't reauthorized the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and that Republicans have control of the Senate.

The CNN host interviewing Durbin immediately stopped him and pointed out that Republicans did include the re authorization of CHIP in the bill and stopped him again to remind him that the Democrats do in fact have power in the U.S. Senate as 60 votes are needed."

Mr. Paine,

Did you see this in Scientific American?

"Pollution in the atmosphere is having an unexpected consequence, scientists say—it's helping to cool the climate, masking some of the global warming that's occurred so far.

That means efforts worldwide to clean up the air may cause an increase in warming, as well as other climate effects, as this pollution disappears.

This means the places where air pollution is most severe are likely to experience some of the greatest effects if that pollution were to disappear. East Asia, where aerosol emissions are some of the highest in the world, would be likely to experience a strong increase in precipitation and extreme weather events. To a certain extent, these effects might carry over to other parts of the Northern Hemisphere, which are connected to Asia via major atmospheric currents.

"We also see that the impact that these aerosols have on temperature in Asia really transports northwards to the Arctic region, northern Europe, Norway, the northern U.S.," Samset noted. "That part of the world is also quite sensitive to the changes in aerosols in Asia."

Complete article is here

Mr. Paine,

Your compassion for dreamers is noted. You do not want to deport them. You just want group punishment as in “back of the line” for them, for what their parents did. That could mean a lifetime of second class citizenship.

there should be a penalty when someone has broken the law...I would give the Dreamers full citizenship, minus voting rights. Seems like a fair penalty to me.”

This is more generous than many conservatives. But it still demands accountability and punishment for those who had no choice as children.

Giving them citizenship and even voting rights, after completion of citizenship tests, comes at no expense to legal immigrants. If they object, please show us that objection. Otherwise it is only your opinion.

“.. or be deported!” This was the threat implied by white nationalism. And that is happening. Punishing people and breaking up families just for being brought here as a child is a politically motivated act that white nationalists and racists cheer.

If you are convinced deporting Dreamers has no basis in racism, then you are missing the key element of Trumpism. It really goes back to him, and noting his racism and actions to end DACA is exactly on topic. Is this really not a defense of moral thought?

I have acknowledged and condemned the true cases of Trump's racism

Yes, you have, and I credited you for that. But would you deny that Trump’s racism plays a part in the deportation of dreamers?

Through all of this, our agreement that we need secure borders and controlled immigration is lost. I even agree that the shutdown was a stupid tactic. It always is. “S-Hole countries and more Norwegians” doesn’t go far in removing the racist element behind all this, either.

You can say this is off topic, but I disagree. Punish me if you need to.

Right wing double standards? LOL!

Imperialism: a policy of extending a country's power and influence through diplomacy or military force.

MM doesn't agree with dictionaries. But we knew that.

MM “doesn’t agree with” the article on what?

This?

The Trump administration’s defense secretary, former Marine Corps Gen. James Mattis, rolled out a new National Defense Strategy Friday

Or this?

“Great power competition—not terrorism—is now the primary focus of US national security,” Mattis said in his speech

Or this?

“China is a strategic competitor using predatory economics to intimidate its neighbors while militarizing features in the South China Sea,” it states. “Russia has violated the borders of nearby nations and pursues veto power over the economic, diplomatic, and security decisions of its neighbors.”

How about this?

to ensure that the US remains “the preeminent military power in the world” able to “ensure the balance of power remains in our favor,” “advance an international order that is most conducive to our security and prosperity” and “preserve access to markets.”

Or this?

The document said the Pentagon will seek to upgrade all aspects of its nuclear war-fighting apparatus, “including nuclear command, control, and communications, and supporting infrastructure.” It added that “Modernization of the nuclear force includes developing options to counter competitors’ coercive strategies, predicated on the threatened use of nuclear or strategic non-nuclear attacks.” In other words, the US military is prepared to launch a nuclear war in response to a conventional or cyberattack.

Or Maybe this?

Mattis warned that the war plans outlined in the document will require “sustained investment by the American people,” noting that “past generations” had been compelled to make “harsher sacrifices.”
==
He really has no idea what the article says.

I bet these will be the only words he scans without comprehension.

Darrell Michaels said...

Majormajor, that article from Scientific American will get the author in a lot of trouble from the "real scientists" for straying off of the reservation. Don't they know that scientific fact these days is based on what is politically correct and what Al Gore says it is? How dare they go against the father of the internet! :)

"Giving them citizenship and even voting rights, after completion of citizenship tests, comes at no expense to legal immigrants. If they object, please show us that objection. Otherwise it is only your opinion." ~ Dubya

Giving Dreamers citizenship ahead of those that stood in line to immigrate legally may not monetarily cost those legal immigrants, but it shows them and the world that their integrity and respect for our laws by doing things the right way is not valued either when others can be rewarded -- perhaps even more quickly when they break the law, even if through no fault of their own. It dispels the ideal that we are supposedly a nation of laws. To say that there is "no cost" is merely your opinion, sir.

"It really goes back to him, and noting his racism and actions to end DACA is exactly on topic. Is this really not a defense of moral thought?" ~ Dubya

I cannot see into the heart of President Trump as well as some of my progressive friends obviously can. I do know that he ended DACA, and his reasonably stated purpose was because by President Obama's own acknowledgement nearly TWO DOZEN times, he did not have the legally authority to enact DACA by executive mandate. President Trump ended this unconstitutional order and sent it back to congress to decide the issue, where the proper authority resides. Again, we are supposedly a nation of laws. Evidently this is a concept that has become completely foreign to those that we have elected to govern us and to some of their supporters.

"(MM can be off topic. I understand that is what he does. He can’t help himself. Isn't it interesting MM showed CNN corrected a Democrat? Hmm. More 'fake news'?)" ~ Dubya

Dave, my annoyance at your comments was not because they were "off topic" but rather that despite my constant, consistent, and unequivocal denunciations of racism, you continue to want to play the race card with the implication that because I support President Trump on some matters, I am therefore supporting his racism. If you believe a policy of his is racist, it is absolutely your right to call it out. If I agree that it is racist, I will even concur and support you with that. If I don't and I think it is simply partisan politics, I will point that out. Disagreement with your positions does not automatically position your political adversaries in the white supremacist camp, sir. THAT is what I was annoyed about and am tired of tolerating.

Dave Dubya said...

Agreement with Trump on non-race issue does not make one a racist. However, a sober person may wish to reexamine his agreement with such and ill-informed elite bigot.

To say that there is "no cost" is merely your opinion, sir.

And you have shown NO evidence of any cost. You haven’t supported your opinion with evidence. Just FEELINGS.

What just “law” provides punishment for children’s “offenses” beyond their control? Who would be the real victims? Families are being broken up already. ID searches are being done on buses. This is “papers please” totalitarianism.

There is a powerful authoritarian urge to punish those who have done no harm as children. I get that. Mercy is for the weak. Your position is saintly compared to others on the far Right.

I cannot see into the heart of President Trump

Does this mean you can ignore his words? Trump defended white supremacists as “very fine people” and you agreed. You FEEL it to be true.

You are not one of them, even if you have the ill-informed Trumpist opinion on the Charlotesville gathering, that was clearly organized by Stormfront and other racist groups.

Do you realize many Dreamers have been here longer than the time many are waiting for legal immigration? What is your punishment for them? How long is that line you want to put them in?

Surely you have thought this through,

DACA exists because Congress never acted on the issue. Obama never said DACA is unconstitutional.

DACA is not a law. As Janet Napolitano wrote, “Indeed, many of these young people have already contributed to our country in significant ways. Prosecutorial discretion, which is used in so many other areas, is especially justified here.”

No court has said it is unconstitutional.

Prosecutorial discretion. This is also why Obama backed off enforcement against medical cannabis. This is also why plea bargaining exists to catch high level criminals.

Would you prefer the DEA bust into homes of cancer patients using cannabis, or would you prefer prosecutorial discretion?

Surely you have thought this through.

Darrell Michaels said...

James, the article you provided was very interesting and I appreciate your sharing of it.

That said, some of the justifications for this strategic document, as quoted in your article, strike me as entirely prudent. Russia has indeed re-annexed the Crimea and is fighting a proxy war in the sovereign nation of Ukraine. They have threatened to cut off natural gas and oil supplies to our allies in Europe in the past and are supporting the leading state sponsor of terrorism of Iran by supporting their puppet state of Assad's Syria. China has been "building" islands in the south China sea for military control of what is recognized as international waters. They harass our naval vessels traveling in those waters. They too are seeking hegemony in the region.

The Pentagon, generals, and admirals have always made plans based on possible scenarios with potential military adversaries as a simple course of being prepared for any eventuality that could occur. I think with increased Russian beligerence under Putin, and to a lesser degree some of the provocations of China, it is simply being wise with changing some of our assumptions of these nations and making strategic considerations accordingly. This is precisely what the military and the DOD should be doing sir.

"Dave, Mr. Paine, and his inept and pointless sidekick, continuously and repeatedly ignore facts, yet repeat cultish "alternate facts" at every chance and opportunity. It's the conservative modus operandi. It's what makes America grate -- again, and again. " ~ JG

LOL. I guess I should have known better. Perhaps they will teach me at a re-education camp once Elizabeth Warren is president. In the meantime I should just know that "facts" are anything that support progressive issues, whether they are actual or fabricated. Got it now. Thanks. Back to my cult updates now... :)

Dave Dubya said...

This is precisely what the military and the DOD should be doing sir.

I agree the military should be prepared for contingencies and security threats.

Like the US, China and Russia have their imperial designs too. One disturbing difference is only the US embraces first use of nuclear weapons. Compound the horror of initiating nuclear war with our sabre-rattling “stable genius” in command...

Fact 2: This is about allowing a process for families to come together and legally immigrate.

Fact 3: Conservatives once wanted chain migration for white Europeans. Guess what changed?

“to ensure that the US remains ‘the preeminent military power in the world’ able to ‘ensure the balance of power remains in our favor,’ ‘advance an international order that is most conducive to our security and prosperity’ and ‘preserve access to markets.’ “ ~ Dubya

Please tell me what precisely is wrong with that statement. This sounds like the mission statement of our armed forces; basically to protect and defend our national interests and the preservation of our way of life. Do you prefer that the United States not have the military capability to be a counter-balance to nations that are not necessarily fond of our founding principles? Do you think Russian aggression in the Crimea and the elsewhere in the Ukraine and Syria are good things? Do you think Chinese building “islands” in the South China Sea to thus claim international waters as now being territorial waters and thus harass free transit of shipping and passage of naval vessels is a good idea for those in the region?

I suppose if one thought that these less-than-altruistic and even communist regimes were better at maintaining world peace and sustaining human rights, then one might wish the balance of power to shift in their favor. I, for one, think that America even with all of its flaws, is far better suited to be the champion of human rights and free trade in the world. I know there are many Americans that no longer think this is so, quite sadly.

“In other words, the US military is prepared to launch a nuclear war in response to a conventional or cyberattack.” ~ Dubya

Dave, are you aware that a cyberattack or a large scale conventional attack on a major metropolitan power grid that disabled it indefinitely could be nearly as deadly as a nuclear strike? Perhaps it is not a bad idea to expand the concept of mutually assured destruction to include such attacks so that our potential enemies know that this is not a viable path in war for them. Sometimes thinking these things through without reflexive knee-jerk reactions is the better course.

Next, “And you have shown NO evidence of any cost. You haven’t supported your opinion with evidence. Just FEELINGS.” ~ Dubya

Just like you did, sir, with saying there is no cost. You have no evidence that there isn’t any cost… just your feelings that this is so. Further, you are absolutely wrong again. There is always a cost to society when just laws are broken and ignored. It is a philosophical matter, but it impacts the real world in the fact that if laws are broken and those people are rewarded despite breaking those laws, then society realizes that the benefits will sometimes outweigh the consequences of not abiding by laws we decide we don’t like. This leads to anarchy and chaos. I know some folks on the militant left (antifa comes to mind) seem to thrive on this; however, the concept of the rule of law is what ensures equality and justice, even if it is not always perfectly executed in actual practice.

“Obama never said DACA is unconstitutional.” ~ Dubya

Responding in October 2010 to demands that he implement immigration reforms unilaterally, Obama declared, "I am not king. I can't do these things just by myself." In March 2011, he said that with "respect to the notion that I can just suspend deportations through executive order, that's just not the case." In May 2011, he acknowledged that he couldn't "just bypass Congress and change the (immigration) law myself. ... That's not how a democracy works." In other words, this failed constitutional scholar KNEW he did not have constitutional authority to do what he later did. In other words, he knowingly and with intent violated the constitution yet again.

“Prosecutorial discretion. This is also why Obama backed off enforcement against medical cannabis. This is also why plea bargaining exists to catch high level criminals. Would you prefer the DEA bust into homes of cancer patients using cannabis, or would you prefer prosecutorial discretion?” ~ Dubya

Wow. That was quite the non sequitur. I think Obama being a well-known pot head as a teen probably explains a lot of things. I am not going to get off track by debating whether we should allow an already dangerously ignorant and sometimes stupid populace to further exacerbate things by giving tacit governmental approval to them becoming pot heads too. I know that prosecutorial discretion is the legal loophole that Obama and the pro-illegal immigration crowd cites on DACA, but the fact of the matter is that is a dangerous precedent that could be expanded to include nearly anything for the executive branch. The fact remains that this issue is something which the constitution EXPLICITLY states is in the lone purview of the congress. Obama knew that and yet sought a loophole for cynical political reasons. That is the truth of it and not simply feelings.

"The Senate minority leader, through an aide, informed the White House on Monday that he was retracting the offer he made last week to give Trump well north of the $1.6 billion in wall funding Trump had asked for this year, according to two Democrats. And now they say Trump will simply not get a better deal than that on his signature campaign promise.

Schumer “took it off,” said Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin, the No. 2 Senate Democrat. “He called the White House yesterday and said it’s over.”

In the now-famous cheeseburger summit last Friday with Trump, Schumer offered a large increase in border wall spending as a condition for a broader deal to help Dreamers. But after that offer was rebuffed — prompting the three-day government shutdown — the president has now “missed an opportunity to get the wall,” one Democratic aide said.

Hogan Gidley, a White House spokesman, said Tuesday that the Schumer offer “never existed.”

“You can't rescind money you never really offered in the first place,” he said on Fox News."

"CNN is reporting that Schumer is taking the funding of the Border Wall off the table, not stopping chain migration, returning to demanding total Dreamer amnesty. Get ready for another Schumer Shutdown in February, like the last one, planned in advance, and totally political." ~ Majormajor

Yep. I am pretty much counting on Schumer being stupid yet again. It is my understanding only that McConnell promised an up or down vote on a DACA bill. If Schumer shuts congress down again because he wants to expand the Democrat base with illegal immigration, I suspect it will go just about as well for him that time as it did for him this last week.

It is truly sad that we cannot debate honestly and openly in congress to come up with a viable solution rather than the brinkmanship offered by Schumer and his ilk for pure partisan gains. It is too bad that he doesn't give a flying rats ass about the good of the country, but simply wants to allow millions more unskilled, society-dependent, immigrants into the country just so he can more easily hold onto and expand his power. It is truly disgusting. But saying that is called racism according to the militant leftists.

Darrell Michaels said...

Dave, I do find agreement with you regarding the completely asinine comments Trump has made regarding North Korea and Kim Jong Un. That has unnecessarily ratcheted up the war posturing and made millions of people throughout the world very nervous. It is dangerous and foolish.

I don't think Trump is unstable, but he is juvenile and un-statesmen-like which is never a good combination when dealing with dangerous narcissistic tyrants like Kim Jong Un. A simple dispassionate statement of our new nuclear policy by SecDef or such would be sufficient to put enemies on notice that such catastrophic cyber or conventional attacks on us would be potentially viewed as warranting a tactical nuclear retaliation. Nothing more need be said than that.

Next, as for chain migration, I have already stated my position. The parents that brought their children here illegally should be granted permanent legal status with all rights and responsibilities of a citizen, but without ever gaining the right to vote.

Extended family such as aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents etc. should not be granted legal immigration status merely because they now have "legalized" family in the United States. Parents and minor siblings only should be allowed in my opinion.

This is what White Nationalism looks like when it breaks up a family and punishes them all because their husband and father was brought to the US as a child:

U.S. Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-12) today announced that she has invited Cindy Garcia of Lincoln Park, MI to be her guest at the 2018 State of the Union in Washington, DC. Ms. Garcia is a UAW worker and the wife of Jorge Garcia, a 39-year-old father of two who was deported to Mexico this week after living in the United States for 30 years.

“This week, America watched in horror as Jorge Garcia, a father of two and husband to an American citizen, who was brought to this country at 10 years old and has never received so much as a traffic ticket, was torn from his family and the only home he knows,” said Dingell. “The Garcia family’s story is heartbreaking and infuriating. It is both a symptom of a long-broken immigration system and a new rash immigration policy that does not recognize the difference between a hardworking family man and a criminal. This must change.

You are right, Dave. Obama did inherit a shrinking economy because Bush tried the failed Keynsian approach of government stimulating the economy with bailouts. It didn't work in the Great Depression so why would it have worked then? Perhaps a little more Hayek or Friedman ideas would have served our economy better. That said, the pathetic Obama did nothing to grow the economy. It grew anemically in spite of his continued Keynsian policies. Because of that Obama is the only president in history to never preside over a term of greater than 2.9% growth during his tenure. Even the pathetic Carter managed to beat that.

Trump comes in and scraps many damaging and unnecessary regulations on the ratio of 22 repeals for every 1 new regulation put into place which were choking our economy. He then managed to revamp our tax structure which has already caused a boom in investment, bonuses, and a strongly growing economy.

Tell me what policy that Obama did that was responsible for the economic growth seen in 2017? Name just one. You cannot, because Obama was as big of an economic failure as he was a foreign policy failure. And damn straight I am blaming Obama, even though as you point out ad nauseum, he also happens to be black. This point seems to matter a lot to you, even if the rest of us find it to be completely irrelevant.

Dave Dubya said...

Mr. Paine,

The Great Depression and Bush Recession were brought about by deregulated capitalism, not liberal social programs and government stimulus.

Let’s educate you again.

After Roosevelt developed jobs programs unemployment dropped every year of his first term. Employment improved throughout all his terms except for one year. Unemployment went up in 1938 after the Dems caved to GOP pressure. Roosevelt feared an unbalanced budget and cut spending for 1937. FDR shook off the party that accused him of being an “enemy to his class” and resumed programs and policies that put America back to work.

Here are the BLS figures:

1930 – 8.9%
1931 – 15.9%
1932 – 23.6%
1933 – 24.9% FDR inherits peak GOP unemployment rate thanks to tax cuts and deregulation
1934 - 21.7%
1935 – 20.1%
1936 – 17%
1937- 14.3% FDR caves to GOP on taxes and cuts spending
In 1937, however, Morgenthau successfully convinced Roosevelt to focus on balancing the budget through major spending cuts and tax increases;
1938- 19% Americans lose jobs
1939- 17.2 FDR continues programs and taxes
1940- 14.6%
1941- 9.9%
1942 – 4.7% US goes to war

No matter how many times I show this information it is ignored. It’s against your religion so it must be dismissed out of hand. Yes your unquestioning faith in deregulation and tax cuts for the rich is religious, in there is no reality based evidence to support it.

“a shrinking economy because Bush tried the failed Keynsian approach”... It grew anemically in spite of his continued Keynsian policies.

I see. A shrinking economy happened because of Bush’s supposed “Keynsian approach”, yet it grew under Obama’s? “Both ways” much? Pretzel logic?

Tell me what policy that Obama did that was responsible for the economic growth seen in 2017?

He was a stable president, for one thing. And you just admitted there was growth under Obama. He left a growing economy. That is the foundation for the boost for 2017. You act like Trump is a miracle worker. He’s not.

Obama was as big of an economic failure as he was a foreign policy failure. And damn straight I am blaming Obama

There you go. Blame the Black Guy as a bigger failure than Bush, for the Bush recession and war that spawned of ISIS. Just like I predicted.

Pretzel logic indeed.

Perhaps a little more Hayek or Friedman ideas would have served our economy better.

Those ideas precipitated the Great Depression and Bush Recession. Now go back and read those employment stats under FDR again, or for the first time.

And lest we forget, a “foolish juvenile president” is a stable president. There’s that unquestioning faith again.

And you want to be taken seriously?

You guys amaze me.

Dave, my "selective cherry-picking to blame race over poverty" must have upset you. Good. Just because a person is poor doesn't mean they have to murder, rape and rob. Or even need to. It is just an excuse for not having to be accountable for ones actions, it's racism, it's slavery, but it's never the person who murders, rapes or robs fault is it, cause they are the "real victims', like you Dave... I blame the "black guy" for having only 26.6 % of the population yet committing......

51.1% of murders and non-negligent manslaughter.

I'm going to blame the "black guy" for committing 28.2% of rapes.

I'm going to blame the "black guy" for committing 53.5 of robbery.

Here's a thought for to you, if poverty is the reason for criminal behavior, then why do you and other leftist clowns hate the rich? You would think that to get out of the crime you would want to blacks to become rich by doing what the rich did, instead of playing the race card in your game of victim hood. Govt jobs and programs haven't helped the black people get out of poverty, if it did according your way of thinking, their crime rate would be portion to their % of the population.

Majormajor said...

James,

1. finish high school
2. get a full-time job
3. wait until age 21 to get married and have children.

Brookings reports that "Our research shows that of American adults who followed these three simple rules, only about 2 percent are in poverty and nearly 75 percent have joined the middle class (defined as earning around $55,000 or more per year). There are surely influences other than these principles at play, but following them guides a young adult away from poverty and toward the middle class.

Consider an example. Today, more than 40 percent of American children, children, are born outside marriage. This unprecedented rate of nonmarital births, combined with the nation’s high divorce rate, means that around half of children will spend part of their childhood—and for a considerable number of these all of their childhood — in a single-parent family. As hard as single parents try to give their children a healthy home environment, children in female-headed families are four or more times as likely as children from married-couple families to live in poverty. In turn, poverty is associated with a wide range of negative outcomes in children, including school dropout and out-of-wedlock births.

The attacks by Planned Parenthood on Michael Bloomberg, New York City’s mayor, for launching a campaign designed to inform teenagers of the consequences of teen pregnancy provides a good example of how many in our society face the effects of nonmarital births on teen mothers and their children. In one of the campaign posters, a baby with tears rolling down his face says: “I’m twice as likely not to graduate high school because you had me as a teen.” Another shows a girl saying to her mom: “Chances are he won’t stay with you. What happens to me?” Planned Parenthood criticized the ads, displayed in the subway and bus shelters, for ignoring racial and economic factors that contribute to teen pregnancy. Other critics say the ads stigmatize teen parents and their children."

Then stop teaching the belief that they are victims and because there was slavery over a hundred years ago, you are owed anything today. Brooking's solution works for ANY race wanting to get out of poverty and into the middle class. Three simple steps that don't require one extra law, or a new govt program.

James, what is your solution? And btw, the term "Black Problem" was your's not mine.

Jefferson's Guardian said...

"And btw, the term 'Black Problem' was your's [sic] not mine" ~~ Chuck

Chuck, the term may have been James's, but the inference by you that it's a problem associated with African Americans and not poverty, speaks volumes.

Do you ever tire of carrying that hate and racism around with you every waking minute of every day?

woodenman said...

Chuck, legalizing pot is a good first step because The War on Drugs was always a way to damage ethnic people from the beginning. Countless millions of Black people had their lives ruined because they were carrying some leaves in their pocket.

In NYC there were up to 900,000 stop and frisks a year, almost all of them were on Black people. That practice is certainly unconstitutional and is racial profiling also.

Dave Dubya said...

Obviously finishing high school is essential to getting into the middle class. College is even more useful. Getting a job without having dependents helps young adults as well.

”Then stop teaching the belief that they are victims and because there was slavery”

Says the man who supports the fool who was “teaching” the racist meme that Obama wasn’t an American.

Again, its POVERTY not race. The same formula applies to them.

From the Brooking study:

Perhaps most stunningly, only one in three children from the bottom fifth graduate high school with a 2.5 GPA having not been convicted or become a parent. The figure among children from the top fifth is 76 percent. Finally, parental income affects the likelihood of economic success in adulthood, with 75 percent of those born into the top fifth achieving middle class status by forty versus just 40 percent of those born into the bottom fifth.

See what checking the original study shows?

”Three simple steps that don't require one extra law, or a new govt program.”

Not so fast, sport. The study shows:

Government can help to ensure that more children are born into supportive circumstances by funding social marketing campaigns and nongovernmental institutions that encourage young people to think and act responsibly. It can also help by providing access to effective forms of contraception, and by funding teen pregnancy prevention efforts that have had some success in reducing the nation’s high rates of very early pregnancies, abortions, and unwed births. A number of well-evaluated programs have accomplished these goals and they easily pass a cost-benefit test and end up saving taxpayers money.

Seems someone here isn’t above high school level in independent learning.

Majormajor said...

Dave, so you agree with the solution Brookings offered? Great. But what is a "social marketing campaigns"? Like the one Michael Bloomberg tried to do? And who fought that? Planned Parenthood. Have any idea why? Abortion is not the solution to black poverty. 35% of abortions are black human babies. Just like the founder of Planned Parenthood hoped for.

James, is black crime down in Colorado and California where pot is legal?
I ask because if legal pot is the first solution to the black crime rate, the result in those two States should be insightful. I don't agree with your premises that a little weed in a Blacks pocket is the reason for blacks committing 51% of murders while making up 26.6% of the population. As for stop and frisk, have you viewed the link I provided? Here it is again.

And who fought that? Planned Parenthood. Nope. They didn’t.

Have any idea why? From one with no idea of the facts.

Planned Parenthood criticized the program for ignoring racial and economic factors that contribute to teen pregnancy. MM is all about that.

Bloomberg must have recovered from those “attacks” from PP. He gave them $250,000.

Speaking of racist assumptions and drug war ignorance:

“The Denver, Aurora and Edgewater police departments have not shown any link between violent crime and marijuana,” said Kelly. “In fact, the statistics trend in the opposite direction.”

Colorado alone has compiled several research studies demonstrating that legalization has not facilitated a spike in violent crime. During the first year of the implementation of Amendment 64, Denver experienced a 2.2 percent decrease in violent crime rates and an 8.9 percent reduction in property crime offenses, according to research conducted by the Drug Policy Alliance.

Many other reports have corroborated that data, including findings by the Colorado Department of Public Safety, the FBI Uniform Crime Report and a study conducted by a student research group from Metropolitan State University.

The Colorado Department of Public Safety report showed a 6 percent decrease in the violent crime rate statewide from 2009 to 2014.

Crime reduction and cannabis legalization:

Is MM for it or against it? I report, you decide.

Jefferson's Guardian said...

Chuck, did you learn anything from Dave's reply about the original study cited?... or are you just naturally stupid?

As far as James's comment about legalized weed, it's too early to compare these various state's crime statistics. It'll take years before any meaningful data is available.

Speaking of...when abortion was legalized and became available in 1973, it was found that crime rates, nationally, dropped precipitously in the early 1990s. Abortion on demand was credited for this crime decrease because young men between 18 and 30 (the primary sub-population more likely to be involved in violent or serious crime) were aborted by their parents before they could be raised in unloving or poverty-stricken homes.

The bottom line: Safe and legal abortion contributes to lower crime rates. Whatever the crime statistics are today, they'd be dramatically higher if Roe v. Wade didn't become the law of the land in the early seventies.

Dave Dubya said...

Legalization of abortion and cannabis reduce crime.

Even more fascinating...those states, such as California and New York, that legalized abortion before it became legal nationally, saw their crime rates drop before the rest of the country.

Poverty's the nastiest crime of all, Chuck, but unfortunately conservatives never have seen it that way.

Poverty is never recognized by him, yet it is the number one problem with millions of Americans. Education Is vital, but his party of greed attacks public education to support privatized corporate indoctrination centers.

Their sickness of soul regards our rights to education and healthcare as commodities to enrich Republicans.

More self serving lies from Dave.

Of course, Chuck, I never offered any solutions nor outlined any problems, other than that of poverty.

You're the one owning the idea that African Americans are predisposed to commit criminal acts, not me. That's, Chuck, the definition of racism.

Finally, the evidence is tangible and conclusive -- you are a racist. Your president must be so proud.

Okay, Chuck, please outline Dave's lies with an explanation as to the reason.

You realize, of course, if you don't explain your reasons, than they are not lies and you're falling back on projection once again.

I'm waiting...

When facts, evidence and reason get in the way, whine, “Lies!”.

Just like his Dear Leader.

Same lack of values. Same lack of understanding. Same scorn for reality.

This is how they make America hate again.

JG,
We should really go easy on poor MM. He's frightened by the dreaded "Secret Society" and "Deep State".

Black helicopters are hovering as we speak, ready to pounce on Real Americans!

BTW, here is the new secret code for the next Secret Society meeting: "N32U54T67S"

Remove the numbers for the secret password.

'Increase in Dow under:

Increase in S&P under:

- Trump from Jan 20, 2017 to Jan 4, 2018: 20.0%"
DAVE D.

The Dow is up 44% since the 2016 election as of yesterday 1/25/2018
As of yesterday, with the Dow reaching another all time high, the Dow reached its 98th ALL TIME high since the election.

Anyone care to venture a guess how much both the DOW and S&P have jumped since Obama left office?
On 11/8/2016
DOW was 18,332.74
S&P was 2,139.56

On 1/24/2018
DOW was 26,210.81
S&P was 2,839.13

Pretty big jump in a little over a year. What could have caused such dramatic growth? Must have been the 2016 election.

While being 26.6 % of the population, blacks commit......

51.1% of murders and non-negligent manslaughter.
28.2% of rapes.
53.5 of robbery.

Reason for these statistics lefties say is poverty.

Solution offered for ending poverty:

1. finish high school
2. get a full-time job
3. wait until age 21 to get married and have children.

Abortion is not the solution to black poverty and according to the left the cause of higher crime rate of blacks because:
35% of all abortions are already black human babies

These facts were followed by 14 posts attacking these facts and me.

jG, you still stalking me?

Mr. Paine,

It will be interesting is to see how the lefties respond to President Trump's offer of citizenship to the Dreamers.

Paranoia again. Here comes the Deep State to get ya, MM. Look out!

And the Secret Society is taking down Dear Leader.

Better attack liberals. And cite Black crime stats again. I’ll bet these stats are posted at the Klan meetings, too. They love to cite them for some reason.

But I’m sure MM is a “very fine person”.

So the solution to increased crime is aborting those children that might be raised in poverty that would potentially be responsible for that crime? Good Lord.

Jefferson's Guardian, you have become so nasty that there really is no point in even attempting to discuss things with you anymore. You, like Dave Dubya, love nothing more than the heat of the fight and to belittle those that have the temerity to disagree with you. I have tolerated the both of you for far too long with the hopes that you would at least return to arguing your points as gentlemen, sadly to no avail.

I do not need the two of you to raise my comment counts when the very quantity of them are filled with hate and nastiness. That is not what I ever intended for this blog to be used.

That said, I would greatly appreciate it if you both would leave my blog and not return accordingly. I have no more use for the sophomoric name calling and hate that is part and parcel of both of your debating strategies. Please just leave. You can whine and lie about me, as JG already is, on Tom's or other folk's blogs.

That said, I wish you both well regardless. Cheers.

Darrell Michaels said...

My apologies to Jefferson's Guardian. It was "Paul" and Dave that were on Tom's blog, and Dave on Fair and Balanced, so I am told, that were being nasty and typically untruthful on the latest posts.

Dave Dubya said...

Yes, so one-sided. I was just called a liar. IOKIYAMM.

Calling our falsehood is seen as I hate, I suppose. Why else would someone not drink their koolade?

Roger Wilco.

"Commie Dave" will no longer offer facts the Right cannot digest.

Like the idiocy of the "Secret Society" and "Deep State" and thousands of other lies and falsehoods by conservatives.

And again, its POVERTY not race.

Deaf ears.

You guys still amaze me.

Darrell Michaels said...

"Calling OUR falsehood is seen as I hate, I suppose." ~ Mr. Dubya (emphasis is mine)

I wonder if this was a Freudian slip?

Oh, and I said NOTHING of race in my comment.

Mr. Paine, referencing your comment directed to me at 3:30 p.m., what in the world are you talking about?

Your reading comprehension appears to be as inept as your little buddy's. Please cite for me where I advocated for abortion as a means to reduce crime?

Let me save you the trouble. You can't.

You are amazingly intolerant of facts, Mr. Paine. Why is that?

If you're so uncomfortable with the truth, and being called out on your own verbous opinions and deliberate misleading editorial, please feel free to resort to screening comments before publication. Otherwise, I see no reason to voluntarily leave just so you can feel comfortable promoting authoritarian extremism and ignoring one particular reader's coded racism and bigotry. Your looking the other way only makes it appear you agree.

Darrell Michaels said...

Well, JG, let me refresh your memory of where your words sure seemed to implicate your support for abortion as a means to reduce crime:

"Speaking of...when abortion was legalized and became available in 1973, it was found that crime rates, nationally, dropped precipitously in the early 1990s. Wade didn't become the law of the land in the early seventies." ~ JG

Did you explicitly state that you support abortion for this reason? No, but a reasonable person could make such an assumption based on your argument of support. Or were you merely trying to enlighten us without really supporting abortion as a means to reduce crime as your previous comments intimated?

Sadly folks, due to the continued ungentlemanly behavior of Jefferson's Guardian and his unwillingness to abide by my request to take his venom and lies elsewhere, comment moderation will unfortunately be enforced going forward. I will strive to be on top of comments submitted so that there is as little delay to their posting as possible. Have a good weekend all!

Dave,
I just posted facts, that you and your sidekick attacked. Your reaction to those facts are your problem, not mine.

How does poverty cause blacks to commit 51.2% of murders while making up 26% of the population? Aren't there more poor whites than poor blacks? If so shouldn't the white murder rate be higher?

It is about race, you use race all the time when you attack Conservatives. If it's not about race do we have Affirmative Action which only applies to non whites?
