President Obama's Final Command to the Press

Ohhhh... I see...

So NOW that President Obama is leaving office, the press corp should remove its collective lips from his rear end and start doing their job of holding our government and its officials accountable to the United States Constitution and We The People.  Does this arrogant buffoon even realize the irony of his "directive" to his sycophantic minions in the media?

Hell yes they should not seek to be necessarily complimentary, and by all means, they should cast a critical eye towards those in power going forward.  They SHOULD have been doing so for the last eight years as well though.  Perhaps if the vaunted "fourth branch" of government had done their job properly over the better part of the last decade, the erosion of liberty and the neglect of our Constitution would not have been as wantonly subsumed as the normal course of business under President Obama's administration.

Amazing...

Maybe you guys will have better luck with the Russian media Trump and Putin install.

Oh, T. Paine.

Surely you have specific issues in mind that you feel mainstream press ignored or misinterpreted or underplayed. You are capable of mentioning one or two examples. Maybe more.

Absent those examples, your post amounts to no more than empty insult. Almost as if you called our recent President an "arrogant buffoon" but could think of nothing beyond that.

I know you as a thoughtful, knowledgeable conservative with a firm grasp on supporting facts.

That is why I am certain you can do better than this.

Jim, you are a funny guy. I suspect that Russia will be far less of a problem under Trump then it was with Obama. Just ask those good folks living in the Crimea and in other parts of Ukraine... or Syria... or elsewhere in the world how much help Obama was.

Mr. Deming, I thank you for your thoughtful comment.

That said, Obama and for that matter, Trump, are both arrogant buffoons. Further, I had neither the time nor inclination to do a long post listing all of Obama's specific offenses regarding this matter. There are myriads (more than two) however that ANY person paying even a modicum of attention during that last eight years can cite. If you truly think about it, despite your political predilections, I am certain that even you could come up with three examples, sir.

My thought was simply to make a quick comment in response to President Obama's foolish tweet. I suppose I could get a Twitter account and respond in 140 characters too, but I'd really rather find more productive things to do than spend a lot of time on a poor, hypocritical, past president.

Thank you for your answer, T. Paine.

Just to be sure I have this right:

Because you do not have enough time to list every instance in which President Obama showed himself to be an "arrogant buffoon" you find yourself unable to think of a single instance. Not even one.

Mr. Deming, as per your wish, here is a big one that exemplifies the arrogance and hypocrisy of President Obama. He said literally on nearly two dozen occasions that he did not have the power and constitutional authority to ignore the law when it came to the "Dreamers" by granting them amnesty. And then he did anyway.

http://www.speaker.gov/general/22-times-president-obama-said-he-couldn-t-ignore-or-create-his-own-immigration-law

And the cowards in congress let him get away with it.

Thank you, T. Paine.

If I understand your answer, President Obama did something official with which you disagree as a matter of policy. You also believe it to have been beyond the scope of his authority. And you are disturbed because nobody in Congress seems to have agreed with your legal assessment.

That all strikes me as reasonable, although incorrect.

It also strikes me as dodging what I thought was my very reasonable question. "Arrogant buffoon" was your phrase, I believe.

Darrell Michaels said...

Really? Truly? The first paragraph of your response after thanking me was accurate, Mr. Deming. Your conclusion is somewhat bewildering, however.

I think this is a prime example of the arrogance of President Obama. Even he acknowledged on twenty-two recorded occasions that he was "not a king" and did not have the "constitutional authority" to simply sign an executive order to grant amnesty. He then, ultimately decided to grant amnesty anyway on his OWN AUTHORITY as if he WERE an arrogant king that recognizes no legal restrictions anymore. He realized his "legacy" or whatever whimsy motivated him was more important than following the laws of this nation. THAT is extraordinary arrogance, my friend, and makes President Obama an arrogant buffoon by definition accordingly.

Jim Marquis said...

Uh, have you noticed how many executive orders Donald is signing? He looks like a doctor trying to use up an old prescription pad.

Darrell Michaels said...

Yep, you are absolutely correct, Jim. And under normal circumstances, I would be appalled and worried by this. The fact that most of Trump's executive orders are simply to repeal and replace Obama's asinine ones gives me comfort though. If he intends to continue this and govern by executive fiat, like President Obama did, then I will side with you.

The fact that Obama used his last week to pardon or commute over 1300 felons, including Bradley Manning and a Puerto Rican terrorist is another stain on his legacy. But being kind towards terrorists so they will like us is nothing new to that damned fool. I guess that is why he also let out another ten terrorists from Gitmo and gave over $220 million more dollars to the Hamas-backed Palestinians in his last week too. At least he is consistent after making such a foolish deal with Iran so that they can get a nuclear bomb in a decade or less. His legacy will only be more death and blood shed, not that the liberal media will lay the blame where it belongs on this matter.

I guess Mr. Deming realized that his complaint was not well-founded after all, considering his silence.

Burr Deming said...

Your guess is incorrect, T. Paine.

President Obama has always maintained that a responsible press must examine critically those in power. Nothing buffoonish, arrogant, or self-contradictory about it.

Nothing buffoonish or arrogant in taking actions or adopting policies you abhor.

He was either right or he was wrong. Your name-calling does nothing more than muddy the water.

Darrell Michaels said...

Really? You don't see the arrogance of taking actions or adopting policies when you yourself have acknowledged some two dozen times that you do not have the legal constitutional authority to do so? That is an interesting insight into your beliefs, my friend.

As for the sycophantic press, they rarely held Obama accountable on his myriads of lies from "the attack was based on a video", to "if you like your plan, you can keep your plan", to "I will not hire lobbyists or have them setting the agenda". Those were not misstatements. They were not oversights. They weren't mistakes. He knew what he said when he said them and knew that the opposite of what he said was true or would be true. President Obama, after seldom being called to account on his dissembling then had the audacity to call on the press to make sure it held the next president accountable. I guess we can agree to disagree, but to me that is hypocrisy and arrogance in the extreme, sir.

My calling President Obama arrogant is not meant as an empty epithet. It was descriptive of his behavior based on the evidence I presented.

M. Bouffant said...

That press "corps", you ignoramus. Hey, what about Trumpy & all his executive orders? You have any clever comments on that?

Darrell Michaels said...

M. Bouffant, I appreciate your comment. First, you are correct about it being press "corps", which goes to prove that even conservatives can make mistakes.

Next, you are obviously not very familiar with much of my writing. I am not a Trump fan and did not vote for him. It irritates the snot out of me when I end up defending him on some obscure ridiculous charge that the left has made up in their Alinsky swap dreams.

All of that said, I am not necessarily pleased at all with Trump governing by executive order. Indeed some of those EO's have been very poorly thought out and are constitutionally suspect. However, his EO's that overturn Obama's unconstitutional EO's are welcome relief.

Unlike many folks, particularly on the left, I will call out folks for their wrong doing regardless of their party affiliation.

Why don't you join me in doing so too, M. Bouffant?
