Moses Lambert on Chicago

"Chicago was a perfectly symbolic setting for Obama to give his last official speech; the city is a petri dish of the failed radical policies Obama attempted to impose on the country as a whole.

Of course, Chicago was an appropriate locale for the goodbye address. It’s a violent, one-party city that is collapsing under the weight of its own corruption.

Ruled by his White House chief of staff, Mayor Rahm Emanuel, in 2016 there were 762 murders in Chicago, more than all the murders recorded that year in New York City and Los Angeles combined.

There were 4331 people shot in Chicago in 2016, up from 3550 in 2015, in a city where politicians blame inanimate objects, instead of criminals, for homicides and work relentlessly to deprive helpless residents of their Second Amendment rights.

Chicago is a so-called sanctuary city that goes out of its way to shield illegal aliens from immigration authorities and make their lives as comfortable as possible at the expense of everyone else. Obama protégé Emanuel is a strident, in-your-face supporter of the sanctuary city movement that gave illegal aliens permission to rob, rape, and murder Americans.

Chicago’s debt has junk-bond status and residents are fleeing the city in droves in search of greener pastures.

It is home to failing public schools made worse by the militant, rapacious Chicago Teachers Union and spectacularly unsuccessful public housing complexes.

They should really just rename Chicago 'Obama City.' "

I went to school in Illinois in the late 60's and early 70's. Chicago has not changed much in the intervening years although I think you are stretching it a bit to blame Obama.

I have to agree, Jerry. I'm thinking of a possible parallel argument by some lost-cause neo-confederate.

"The City of Springfield has serious, serious problems. Which makes it the perfect symbolic setting for the final resting place of Abraham Lincoln."

Perhaps I am missing some deeper meaning. Superficially, this attack strikes me as lame.

Jerry, I personally am not blaming Chicago's woes specifically on Obama per se. I am saying that many of his very policies are reflected in how Chicago has been governed for many decades. Because of the policies that Obama has championed which have proven to be dismal failures in Chicago, where President Obama hails from, it simply seemed fitting that they should rename the city in order to "honor" him.

This nation is far worse off in most every critical measurement under his tenure. Chicago, which fully embraces the futility of all progressive policies and the corruption that typically attaches to socialistic movements is simply the crown jewel of President Obama's achievements, sir.

Burr, the parallels between what Chicago has accomplished under former chief of staff Emanuel and the nation as a whole under Obama are indeed congruous, sir. Emanuel embraced the progressive mantle that has smothered Chicago for generations as Obama weakened America.

Obama blames guns for murders instead of the murderers themselves. Chicago has done the same while enacting some of the toughest gun control laws in the nation. Their reward is the earning of the leading murder rate by far in the nation.

Chicago has been so mismanaged that their credit rating has caused junk bond status for them, just as Obama caused the United States to lose its top credit rating for the first time in history under his watch. He decried, rightfully so, the "unpatriotic" and "irresponsible" spending under George W. Bush, and then he trumped that spending by doubling all spending since the inception of our nation.

Chicago touts itself as a sanctuary city while Obama ignores the Constitution that he said he had no authority to override when he championed the "dreamers" in their aspirations for amnesty or at least to avoid incarceration and prosecution. Yep, the similarities there are quite remarkable and appropo.

Chicago is indeed deserving of the title of Obama City, my friend.
