The Democratic National Committee's latest ad that they will be running this week tries to tie the Bush Administration via "Bush Cronies" Karl Rove and Ed Gillespie to completely unsubstantiated and seemingly DNC-created allegations of wrong-doing by the United States Chamber of Commerce.
The DNC ad claims that the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, "appears they're even taking secret foreign money to influence our elections". This falsification of the truth is a message that the Democrats and other progressive groups have kept promulgating despite the fact that even the New York Times investigated and debunked this un-substantiated allegation last Saturday.
One finds this ad distressing because of the complete lack of even trying to be factually accurate. For instance, the primary purpose of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is to represent the small businesses which create nearly three quarters of our nation's jobs. It is a coalition for the support of these small businesses and not for giant corporations that constitutes its primary mission. It certainly was not created with the purpose of being a partisan political action committee, but rather to help the interest of those small businesses in our country.
Further, I find it ironic that this ad is making the false claim of influence from foreign donor sources, despite the fact that to this date President Obama has not made public some of the unknown sources of his campaign contributions that are potentially suspect of the very allegation of which the DNC is making towards the Chamber of Commerce. And this is done despite the fact that he is legally bound to do so by federal election campaign law.
Again this would suggest to me that the Democrats are at the height of desperation. They have completely lost in the arena of ideas and governance. Their platform has been soundly rejected by a strong majority of conservatives and independents and they seemingly are headed for a thrashing in the voting booth in less than three weeks. With such being the case, it would seem that such desperate times call for desperate measures for the Democrats, and the truth be damned if it stands in their way.
