The Objective Media Myth

I am always amused by many of my progressive friends who insist that the media is not liberally biased, or at worst are products of corporate and not progressive bias.  The fact that so many of these well-meaning people don't even recognize the intrinsic liberal bias in the mainstream media based on what they report, how they report it, and what they choose NOT to report is quite telling.

I saw a recent article that is further damning to the notion that the mainstream media is objective.  A few points of interest in particular are the following:

·        96 percent of the donations given by journalists in the 2016 presidential election as of August were to Hillary Clinton, according to the Center for Public Integrity.

·        7 percent of journalists identify as Republican, while 28 percent identify as Democrat, according to an Indiana University School of Journalism study conducted in 2013.

·        “Of the major newspapers that endorsed either Clinton or Trump, only 3 percent (2 of 59) endorsed Trump,” noted FiveThirtyEight’s Nate Silver.

Just some more evidence of the "objectivity" of our mainstream media -- but then us true conservatives already knew these truths.

Mr. Paine,

To understand the liberal belief that the media is not biased towards liberals, one must understand just how far radically to the left liberals have moved. Remember that just 20 years ago a federal mandate requiring all citizens to be covered by health insurance was unthinkable. Today's liberal regards health insurance to be a civil right that can be found in the Bill of Rights. (another example: the creation of a new sex, transgender)

Any interference with the growth and power of the Federal Govt. is deemed as Fascism which must be fought at all costs. Anyone who who doesn't agree with even the most radical liberal side of any position, is named an enemy of the planet.. or worse.

I asked several years ago the owner of the blog which I no longer post on due to it's owners authoritarianism, to name one liberal policy he disagreed with. He could not name one. That is the standard of today's liberal. Unless the media agrees/supports any of their positions no matter how radical, how dangerous, how plan old stupid they may be, liberals do not believe they are a liberal, hence no bias.

I agree with your assessment, sir. You are absolutely correct that things that would have been unthinkable a decade or two ago are actually championed by many on the Left with a haughty disregard for those unenlightened enough to disagree with them. Even look at Hillary, or Obama in his first term. Both were "pro-family" and traditional marriage but conveniently changed their tunes when it became politically expedient to change their positions on this core value. Politics trumped what they believed. Its amazing what so many, including Republicans, will compromise on for 30 pieces of silver.

More evidence of how the 'objective " media is biased.

Since news broke Monday that the Obama Administration's National Security Adviser, Susan Rice, directed the "unmasking" of NSA intercepts of Trump associates, CNN has raced to shoot down the blockbuster report.

CNN Tonight's Don Lemon went so far as to announce he would ignore the news at all costs.

Lemon told his viewers to ignore the reports...Fake News cover up by the non-biased media. What will be fun is watching how liberals (who are never wrong, just ask one,) claim the Susan Rice bombshell is an attempt to divert from the REAL issue. Or they will claim Bush id it first, LOL.

The actions of the Obama lead White House is subversion.

Some media sources are more equal than others, according to some of our progressive friends, Majormajor. :)

I consider it a waste of time to watch TV news or read newspapers or magazines to inform me about most subjects, especially politics. All the websites I go to would be called Liberal but they have criticized Obama from the first days when he starting putting Federal Reserve and Wall street people in his cabinet to his last days when he signed Felony Riot into law.

In my study of politics I consider the truth to be supremely important and being partisan cowardly. That is why I am able to be critical of Obama and Democrats in general.

You guys and Harley have had much harder time being critical of the Republicans even though they have been a disaster for this country in the past as they will be in the future. Your practice of putting party before reality is a skill I want no part of and that pertains especially to you Chuck.

Has it ever occurred to you Woodsman that the reason I have a hard time criticizing the GOP is because they are more conservative that the DNC?

As a conservative I hold to a federal government with limited powers as outlined by the Constitution. Liberals, in my view, hold that the federal government should not have it's power limited nor the use of that power restricted. An example is their demand for federally provided health care.

Are you critical of Susan Rice? A great example of abuse of power by the federal government. Or do you believe it is a smoke screen to deflect from the current focus of liberals, the unsupported claim that the Russians helped Trump become President?

Do you believe the GOP wants to starve children, wage war on women, make us drink dirty water and breath dirty air, is the hide out for today's version of the KKK? Democrats have said this on several blogs you and I both review. Do you believe any of that?

Can you tell me one liberal policy that you are against? I am against the Common Core education program, a GOP program, so there I'm being critical of the GOP.

Trump just signed a bill that allows Internet providers to sell your browser activity to any company that is interested and you have no say at all, do you approve of that?

It is getting late and I do not want to type all night so I will have to tell you about the Liberal policies that I do not like another time.

Your first line is pretty funny! Did it ever occur to you that some Republican politicians are greedy and evil, believe or not they are. Being Conservative does not make them wonderful people.

Woodman,

Here's the rest of the story that your liberal news sources failed to tell you.

President Trump is undoing the rules -- which were created under Obama’s appointee to the FCC, Tom Wheeler, and slated to go in effect later this year – which unfairly targeted broadband providers and put them at a disadvantage when competing with internet companies like Google, Amazon and Netflix. Those web giants are not regulated by the FCC, but in recent years have begun competing with telecom companies’ consumers looking into online streaming services. Look up and tell me how much Google and Amazon gave our former president.
You understand that Obama was protecting those giants at the expense of the little guy and got cash in return?

Crony Capitalism IE Fascism.

Mr. Paine,

I recall a lot of praise being heaped on Norway, the socialist paradise.
I found this interesting report and wonder if it gives the secret of why Norwegians are so happy.

Norway Is Now The World’s Happiest Country, But They Also Take Twice The Amount Of Antidepressants Americans Do…

Europeans are only happier because they take more anti-depressants. Norwegian and Danish people take nearly 3x the amount of anti-depressants Americans do. Nearly 50mg MORE per-person.
They’re literally the world’s most tranquilized people.

woodenman said...

I am pretty sure that article is just bullshit, Norway, Sweden and Denmark have been trading places to be the best place to live for decades, long before anti depressants became popular.

The graph did not even show where the US is on using anti depressants and since Norway was shown to be near the bottom in drug use that would have to make the US one of the least drug using countries in the world. And that I know is bullshit.

Conservatives can not handle the fact that the US is number 14 on the list so they made up this nonsensical story.

woodenman said...

I just did some research, just as I thought the article was bullshit. The US uses the most drugs of any country in the world. Norway is not even near the US at the number one spot. Next!

Majormajor said...

Amazing, you think an article is B.S because you disagree with it.

Not surprised then that you believe climate change is man caused.

So what is that liberal policy you disagree with? Still thinking?

woodenman said...

Chuck, it is very foolish to argue a point that can be disproved by just asking Google a question. It is revealing that you would trust such a poorly written article that does not even have the information on US drug use in the article!

Let us argue another point, I say Norway has the top chess grandmaster in the world, What do you say about that?

Majormajor said...

I say "so what".

You claim I never disprove of a GOP policy, I site one for you. I ask you to name one liberal policy you disagree with and you clam up.
Now what were you saying about being impossible?

Mr. Paine,

Recall a challenge being made to me regarding how the budget could be cut?

Dr. Ben Carson Discovers 500 Billion In Errors During Audit Of Obama’s HUD.

"President Trump picked Carson to head the Department of Housing and Urban Development, whose budget grew by leaps and bounds under Barack Obama.

In one of his first acts as HUD Secretary, Carson ordered an audit of the agency. What he found was staggering: $520 billion in bookkeeping errors.

“The total amounts of errors corrected in HUD’s notes and consolidated financial statements were $516.4 billion and $3.4 billion, respectively,” the auditors wrote."

But there were plenty of other problems, too.

Wonder how much money the HRC and the Kerry State Dept wasted?

Well it seems since I started posting here nobody shows up but Chuck so I will stop ruining the ambiance and just post at Tom's blog. James

Majormajor said...

What's the matter James, tired of getting your butt kicked?

Darrell Michaels said...

James, I appreciate your commenting on my site, and do hope you will return in the future. Unfortunately I haven't been able to devote much time to writing, blogging, or commenting lately due to some personal issues and work which are taking up an exceedingly large part of my time. Even though we don't always see eye to eye, I appreciate your viewpoints and look forward to being able to discuss issues with you in the future hopefully. If not, then the best of luck to you, sir!

woodenman said...

T. Paine, I thought you did not appreciate my comments and were staying away. Since that is not the case I will continue to post here and drive Chuckie crazy.

Darrell Michaels said...

James, I definitely appreciate your comments. Even though we disagree some times, you are thoughtful with your comments and serious in your debate. What is not to appreciate. I hope you come by often!

Perhaps I will even be able to come by often too, as that has been a struggle of late.

Majormajor, yep... the irony is amazing, my friend!
