Progressive Home Defense

A few days ago a "progressive" friend asked me what I thought he might need in order to defend his home and family from home invasion.

I suggested a 9mm, a couple of clips, and a box of shells.

A few days later he sent me this picture below and asked me how to make it all work.

Of course, he voted for Obama twice and Hillary last November.

Mr. Paine,

I'd like your thoughts on this article.

The Civil War is Here
The left doesn’t want to secede. It wants to rule.

Majormajor, that is perhaps one of the best articles I have read in a long time. I have been toying with some of those same ideas and trying to flesh out a draft article, but this one perfectly articulates everything I was trying to say. I think I will link to it instead of trying to reinvent the wheel. Thanks so much for sharing that with me, sir!

I imagine it will make many leftist friends of ours howl in rage, but there is far too much truth in it to be ignored.

By the way, I noticed that since I, and especially you, have left our mutual friend's blog that the comment sections are very sparse indeed. I think he would never admit it, but I am sure he misses your debate. :)

Mr. Paine,

I have checked into our "friends" blog as well as Tom's blog. I wish they would read Mr Greenfield's essay, and hopefully understand it. Sadly, I doubt either will happen. Both are still firm in the belief that the only solution to problems caused by liberal policys is more liberalism. A perfect example of closed circuit liberal diversity.

I read the article and was amused by it. Conservatives seem to like verbose articles written in an esoteric manner that are essentially fact free feel good pieces. I do not come across writing like this often on the Liberal side, I prefer to be informed rather than coddled.

Tom has damaged his blog by over moderating and taking up to 4 days to post a comment, it was a lot better before with up to 200 comments in a week. Are you guys staying away because of that or do you see the handwriting on the wall with Trump and do not want to fight a losing battle? James Hansen

Majormajor, I have many friends and family that are progressives. Some are very thoughtful in demeanor and are open to civil debate of the issues, but many are very close-minded like our friend that wishes to only hear echos of his own thoughts and ideology on his blog. Sadly, there are many on the Right that are also like this though. Both consider the other as "deplorables" and dehumanizes them accordingly. That is precisely how a civil war could conceivably come to fruition.

Woodenman, I am amused by your reaction and seeming dismissiveness to the article, sir. I would hardly characterize it as a "feel-good piece". It is frankly disturbing to think a significant percentage of Americans insist on their ideology trumping the law and especially the constitution. The ramifications of this continued mindset will eventually bring about severe repercussions to our nation. That is not what I would call "coddling", my friend. Further, the same would be true if it were the right that was ignoring the constitutional law of a progressive administration.

As for Tom's blog, I definitely agree with your assessment James. His slow moderation has made the blog less vibrant and rather unwieldy. He seems to have slipped even further to the left, as if that were even possible. He still allows dissenting opinion though, for which I give him kudos. Dissenting opinion is harshly criticized and ridiculed on the other blog that Majormajor and I no longer frequent.

I'll still go by Tom's blog and comment when the mood strikes me, but as for Trump, he is indeed a losing battle. His arrogance and buffoonery have even surpassed Obama's. He may do some good things in the future, but overall, I think the nation will continue to suffer under his administration too.

The article was nebulous, without specific facts there is nothing to debate. Which Liberals are being treasonous, politicians or citizens? When, where, how, and why? The same goes for underpinning the constitution.

The fact is that Bush, Obama and now Trump is harming the US and the world in general. If you look at the big picture, it is not the case of Liberal vs Conservative, it is citizens against an odious government. The blame now shifts to the Republicans because they are making policies to dismantle important programs and entire agencies that protect large segments of the population. The wall between me and you is rhetorical and not reality based.

James,
Thanks for reading the essay, I really mean that.

Did you read the part about how liberals react, what they do when they lose an election?
That's not whining, that is fact, and is the answer to your question of "When, where, how, and why?".

I voted for Trump because, as promise, I voted for the most conservative candidate from one of the two major parties. I don't judge a President on their personality, I judge them how they uphold our Constitution and reduce the size of the federal government. To date, I've had little to gripe about President Trump on my two standards.

I agree with you about Tom's blog and as you do, I some times post there. My staying away from that "other" blog has nothing to do with losing a battle. If I may remind you the left in this country over the past 8 years has taken a beating, and is now barely ticking. Need I share the seats in government they have lost to support this claim?

I stay away due to it's owner capricious use of his house rule to prevent posts of opposing views from being published. Not very diverse.

I understand your contention, James. I suppose Mr. Greenfield could have provided specific examples of each point as to the specific people and their actions involved, but I took the article to be about the general attitude of the more militant Left in demanding that their ideologies be adopted, whether they had majority political support or not.

Further, I could give examples of such people and their specific actions myself. I suspect anyone that was even marginally objective and attentive to the news reports could do so. It wasn't necessary, in other words, for Mr. Greenfield to delve into the myriad of examples and name all the names to make his point, in my opinion.

"The fact is that Bush, Obama and now Trump is harming the US and the world in general." I would concur with that statement, sir.

As for citizens being pitted against the government, well to a large extent you are correct. The difference is that some of those citizens want a minimalist government that does only what the constitution allows it to do and to be left alone otherwise. The other citizens want the government to become more expansive in taking care of their wants and needs without the entanglements of corporations involved. They see the government as an ally that has lost its path and wish to right it into keeping programs that they deem necessary, of which I contend was never the federal government's job in the first place.

Unfortunately or fortunately, rhetoric when articulated well and passionately can stir people to action both for the greater good or the greater ill of the republic. That, my friend, is reality and where we currently stand.

As for me, I may disagree with you on many political issues, but I will always champion and support your right to believe as you choose and advocate as you choose, as long as it is done peacefully. I ask no less of those that take issue with my political stances. The problem is that some on the Left will not allow me that same courtesy when given the chance. That is what this article was about to me.

T. Every Conservative tenet I can think of is destroyed by actual Republican policies, yet you and all the Conservatives still support Republicans.

Liberals protesting Republican plans to end all social services and give huge tax breaks to the rich while spending even more on the military is patriotic. Republican political dominance does not make their actions moral or right in any way.

If Trump is still president in four years I would bet my life savings that the country will be much worse off than it is today.
